When I was 3 or 4 years old, my Dad worked with the border patrol stationed somewhere near El Paso, TX and we lived in Pecos–none of which I remember. I do know that my Dad always loved “Mexican food”, and as I grew up in Colorado many of my best friends had names such as Pacheco, Martinez, Lucero, and so forth. Funny but until 2006 I really didn’t venture into Mexico, except for short visits to Tijuana from Southern California. I think that possibly some of the latest movies and TV episodes such as the more recent series, Breaking Bad instilled a bit of fear into me. I know many people that shared those same fears about travel to Mexico, but I believe that those fears have now been dispelled. I would definitely visit the Mexican Riviera again at the next opportunity.
Since 2006 we have made two more trips to Mexico, and I took another short cruise to Mexico with a group of friends; where we stopped in Cabo, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta. I really love the Mexican Riviera, and I too am hooked on Mexican food. I wish that I had learned to speak the language. I know that when we traveled to Peru, my wife Kathy was a great hit because she spoke Spanish.
