The train took us to Aguas Calientes Peru–a village that lies closest to Machu Picchu. We went to Machu Picchu and then came back to the village to sleep and then returned to the top once more. The ruins are accessed via bus ride from the village up a long switchback road, or via the Inca trail. We did hike up to the Sun Gate. Lots of tourists smoking cigarettes—sort of spoiled the vision. We also hiked to the top of Huayna Picchu. I don’t think I want to make that climb again, but the views were awesome.
