Cappadocia

Cappadocia (Wikipedia Link) is an amazing region, with many homes and ancient Christian chapels carved into the tufa stone.  We even slept in a very modern and romantic hotel carved into the tufa.

Obviously one of the highlights was our hot air balloon ride over the region–first because I had never ridden in a balloon, and more significant was the fact that the landscape was really unique.  We just happened to catch a day with excellent visibility.  We actually waited for quite awhile for the trip to be OK’d.  Evidently flights had been cancelled for a few days prior to our arrival.

By the way, none of the Christian chapels were damaged or defaced.  We also purchased two carpets in the factory previously visited by none other than Martha Stewart.
