Are you planning a “cruise” to Alaska?  Try kayaking instead.

Our friends, Mike and Sharon MacFadyen had been taking Sierra Club groups on kayak trips for several years, but the year following 9/11 was not good for tourism or other “adventures” so they suggested we join them for a kayak trip on Prince William Sound. Our family flew to Anchorage and began our awesome adventure.

We spent a few days with our friends, then their oldest daughter drove our family of 4, along with Mike, Sharon, and Kellan to Whittier.  We ferried from Whittier to Evans Island.  Following the original plan meant that we had to paddle 60 miles, but Sharon reminded Mike while on the ferry, that the planned destination was destroyed in the Earthquake and Tsunami of 1964.  We had the new destination, a kayak ride of roughly 75 miles.
